Thanks for that info James. I wasn't aware of that.

Funnily enough, I much prefer GDM too. For much the same reasons.

No idea when/if GDM's behavior changed. I've been a Kubuntu user and
have only tried GDM on Ubuntu since Gutsy Gibbon.

No, choice is not hell. Too much choice is hell. Too much fragmentation
is hell. Too many **** distros with little or no support is hell.

    Simple enough concept.

Why, you planning on installing them all?

Only if you're using FAT32 or NTFS.

Still waiting for YOUR distro to come out that will be perfect. Please let
us know when it's available for download.

Yep, simple is right. Very simple. Very very simplistic.

    Cheers.

It's funny how Hardon knows what's wrong with every Linux distro...

Have you installed all and used them that you can paint this
picture with such a *broad* brush? At one time I had 3
different distributions installed, and it took me some time
to weed out the one that would fit my needs, no it was no
"hell" to pick out Debian proper, one version was upgraded
from "Progeny" a distribution which I think no longer is
available, but without this small ****ty Distribution
as you call it, I wouldn't be using a "Debian based"
distribution, but maybe a "Mandriva/Mandrake" based. Or who
knows I would have gone the "LFS" route. I mean this must be
hell for you, to decide which programs to use, download the
sources and compile it yourself, with very little with no
support, and one has to spend lots of time studying the
documentations. If one takes the effort and spend the time,
one can build a OS needing no or very little support. So
IMHO this is another "****ty (to borrow a term you used
    *first*) straw-men of yours.

Besides when do you come out with the *perfect*
    distribution?

Quack ignores the fact that some are specialist distros, like 'ubuntustudio'
or 'edubuntu'. But that doesn't matter to Quack, he wants a
    one-distro-fits-all, like his beloved windoze.

In fact he's got what is called "The M$ Prisoner Mentality"
