Yes, as you say: a *rumor*

My understanding was that the gOS was a Google-aware (or Google-centric?)
Linux based on Ubuntu. I could be wrong. It is the os included on the $200
Everex machines sold (in the US) mostly at Walmart and the soon to be
    released CloudBook.

It is, and funnily enough, i've just had to reset the version I was
running in VirtualBox due to it bombing out right before I read this
    message !

    It's still a beta, but it's very good !

FWIW I was simply trying to add a calculator when it crashed - problem
being I don't know what calculators in the various repositories work
with enlightenment - I went hunting for where it had been installed
and it went AWOL while in \usr\

I know it's still a beta, but I would have thought a calculator would
    be a default item...

Ms Penguin says, of course it is. Look at its heritage!

I have this feeling that Open Source is pretty close to tipping

Ms Penguin here. Look if you go fishing, there is a good chance you will
catch some for dinner. Calulator, default item; you are a bean counter?

Google involved in providing patches for Ubuntu? Google involvement in any
    way?

Google is not to be trusted, and if Ubuntu is accepting Google input in any
    way?

    Be afraid. Be very afraid.

No, just crap at mental maths !

I'd rather have that on the scrolly icon bar than some blogging site
    :-}

"gOS is not affiliated with Google or their partners."

    But then:
Q: "Was Google cooperative towards the idea?"
gOS founder Liu: "Everex and Google had a signed agreement for us
to preload the Google toolbar. I actually went to Google yesterday to
demo the real gPC out of the box, literally (i took one from the
line). It???s not an official ???google pc??? or ???google os???, it is what I
think one should look like though. Google knew what we were doing, we
showed them screenshots mid development, etc. We???ll keep our contacts
there updated as we work on the next gPC with an improved gOS."

Depending on how the hardware detection / compatibility issues hold
up, I suspect this is *exactly* what the world+dog has been waiting
for from an OS, particularly in light of Vista.

I'm definitely going to be taking my laptop into work with it running
in a VM (full screen for full effect though) to show around !

Does anybody else see Linux being taken down from within? And Ubuntu being
    used as the front door?

Mark my words... Google is as much to be feared as Microsoft. A Linux
distro with Google embedded in it is a bastard child.

    What are you talking about?

Don't like it? Don't use it. Simple enough.

I admit I'm ignorant as far as Google goes but please tell me why Google
should be avoided. Am I wrong for using Google as my default search engine
and my desktop search software, at least on my MS computers?"Hadron"

Because Google wants to steal your car, your girlfriend, and your xbox.
    And give you a cookie.

No. Because it makes Steve Ballmer cry. So you might as well enjoy it,
because in a couple of updates time they will make it impossible for you
to use any search engine that isn't Yahoo.

Please do not top-post. Your answer belongs after (or intermixed
with) the quoted material to which you reply, after snipping all
irrelevant material. See the following links:
