| I use Ubuntu 7.10 with all updates. I used to play Doom a lot of Windows, and I have LXDoom shoot em up in my Games menu, but when I click on it, nothing happens what so ever. I would love to play this game but I cant, is there a way around this? TIA, Mike. -- Lets stop hurting and killing each other, Lets all live in peace. |

Yes. You have to buy the game and install the data files I believe. > > > TIA, > > > Mike. -- Non capisco tutta questa eccitazione per il multitasking: io sono anni che leggo in bagno. -- Carlo Landini |

The IWAD file is the file used by Doom which contains all the game data (graphics, sound effects, music, etc.). While the Doom source code is Free, you currently still need one of the proprietary IWAD files from id in order to play Doom. Freedoom aims to create a Free alternative. Combined with the GPL-licensed Doom source code this will result in a complete Free Doom-based game. |

I went here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...oom/+bug/70227 and installed via: sudo apt-get install freedoom doom-wad-shareware Though I can't get the sound to work. Game plays fine otherwise. Need to dig as to why no sound though.... (No fun without gunfire). :-) -Grig |

I just did, and now it works fine. thanks for the tip. I'm a little surprised when you go to install a package, it doesn't haul down all of the dependencies. |

Those are suggested or recommended, I think you can tell Synaptic to treat recommended as dependencies, in which case it will install them. -- Phil Stovell, Hampshire, UK |
