I run Ubuntu most of the time, you dumb cunt.

Well, at least one person here gets it. I run Windows mostly for games
but also for Photoshop, Pagemaker and Illustrator.

??? I've only recently started using this username so don't know how you
draw up that stupid conclusion. Every post I have made here has been
using Ubuntu also so how does that make me a Wintard?

    LOL

Oh man you are a riot, now really!

Are you telling me that you don't know any hardware needs
drivers? And when one considers buying a new HW, that one
should make certain it will work with the OS?

But then maybe you (since you demand it to be so) can write
some code that Ubuntu or any other Gnu/Linux would show a
    unknown device. LOL

YEP, Peter just gave me the hint to use "<".

Come to think of it, I used ">" or ">>" many times to pipe
the output of a command into another file. Forgot (since I
never used it 'til now) that "<" will *read* a file.. and patch uses it
to merge contest of other files if I understand correctly how patch
    works.

Now I have to set up SLRN to use it.

Harold Stevens is a Linux fanboi. Killfile him and Willy Boaster. They
are only here to disrupt and never, ever post anything close to helping
    anyone.

I agree with you : there is nothing sadder than grown men calling others
"Wintards" because they run a competing OS some of the time for tasks
that other OSs can not do.

    Wait a minute.

I'm sure if all games running currently on windows had a
counterpart in Gnu/Linux the OS would be more then capable
to run it. It's not a question if the OS "can't" do it, it's
more the question if Software, drivers etc. etc. are written
    for it.

But of course you know that. :-)

Correct. The OS can not run the *same* games. It can try with WINE and
CEDEGA but generally its not as good as native.

You really don't know? fanboi is a description of someone who call
people Wintards and the like. In addition "tard" bit is taken from
    "retarded".

Which naturally necessitates calling him a "dumb cunt"
Yup. That for sure will do for a nice cozy discussion, with lots of calmly,
    politely offered support for "John"

This in the light of the contradicting "info" John Adams is giving here?
Did you notice by chance that he failed to mention *which* type of scanner
    he uses?

    http://www.sane-project.org/sane-mfgs.html#Z-CANON

That is the page he should have consulted, which lists a *lot* of different
CanoScan types, several which are supported, others which are not.
It also lists the driver-type for the supported ones, which can be enabled
*trivially* easy even manually. No "new hardware detected" nonsense of the
incredible stupid windows type, which more often than not detects "new
hardware" if you do so evil things as to plug already installed ones into a
    different USB port

Then "John" should stop shouting how wonderful windows is in detecting new
    hardware. Because it isn't
But thats exactly how "John" started this thread.

Instead he should have supplied the type of scanner and asked if anyone had
experience with it. He did not

I think that as soon as someone refers to someone who uses Windows for
whatever reason a "wintard" then the thread is already
lost. Unfortunately this group is attracting more and more of the COLA
crew as can be seen from the number of "works for me " and "windummies"
posts from such legends as Willy Poaster and Harold Stevens.

You mean for all of the *26* posts from Harold Stevens to COLA since 1997?

With his last post containing such "windummie" things like

"...or anything "advocacy" crossposted into a tech group. In fact, flatfish
and his copycats/sockpuppets are going to goad me into killfiling anything
containing anything "advocacy" in the Newsgroups line. Like they care. "

Yup, *that* certainly makes him a member of the "COLA crew". Which exists
only in your deranged mind, "true linux advocate", "kernel hacker", "emacs

Did you not note the difference? It was a thread. With "Harold" doing
his usual nonsense. The other poster was a one off blow in with the
TROLL alert. Harold, however, persists in posting in here insulting
people and not adding one tiny bit of positive help to any
threads. Since you're so good with google you can check.

Thats lovely. But it also has other meanings.

    ,----
    | From German-English Freedict dictionary [fd-deu-eng]:
    |
    | Quark [kvark] (n) , s.(m )
    | curd
    `----

    ,----
    | In particle physics, the quark (pronounced IPA: /kwɔrk/) is one of the
    | two basic constituents of matter (the other is the lepton). Quarks make
    | up protons and neutrons, with there being exactly three quarks within
    | each kind of particle.
    `----

In Hobbiton Dragomir means "he who prefers dragons to women". No, really.
