Creative's beta driver has not been updated for recent changes in the

VMWare always emulates an ENS1371 sound card by using the sound driver
of the host system.

James got some documentation from Creative several months ago, but there
is no driver yet. Apparently, he doesn't have enough free time to write
or complete the driver. At the moment, there is no plan or estimate for
when it might be finished.

Good advice. I do, but still managed (apparently) to zap the BIOS in an
older PC I've worked inside OK for years. I was simply replacing the 3v
CMOS battery--now, it's bricked. Won't even do the basic POST.
So, it goes in the salvage pile for parts. Live and learn... :)

The CMOS power line is so sensitive that just leaving it floating without the
battery can get it killed by a mobile phone polling or something that moves near
the computer.
Hold a finger on the connector all the time while replacing the battery.
(a non floating finger)
Mostly the internal CMOS protection diodes take the hit, but start to leak,
so the new battery don't last for 10 years as designed, but maybe just weeks,
or a few days power off time.
Well, not much X-FI here, but for all hardware , users shall not touch it
before they know how to handle it, just as they expect that the food they eat
is only handled by peoples that know to handle food in a safe way.

I got my soundcard (Sound Blaster X-Fi Extreme Music PCI) working by
installing the Open Sound System Driver from
[url]www.opensound.com/download.cgi[/url]. For the 64-bit OpenSuse use the AMD64
version.

The sound output is good, in my opinion. Unfortunately, it doesn't
support the microphone, so users of Audigy, Ekiga, and Skype would
still have something to complain about.
