nvidia geforce 8600 gts - Suse

| I installed on new computer opensuse 10.3 . on computer is nvidia geforce 8600 gts . I installed the driver from nvidia-source, like written on opensuse.org . but with root init 3 sax2 -r or sax2 -r -m 0=vesa I just get very short the Nvidia-Logo, after that I get an fatal error . are there known problems with that card ? is there any solution for that known ? thanks for answers. regards Alex |

I use the nvidia repository and as I recall I didnt need to do anything. Just install the driver rpms, logout, login. sax2 and glxinfo confirm that it is working, but I make no changes there. Make sure you get the right packages.. one is called G01. one is for older cards. I forget which is which, and it doesnt say in the description.. ![]() -- _______________ hello friend! BTW, you can get this amazing card for under $100 US now. It's overclockable, runs cool, isn't an expensive 8800 and overall, a gift. |

Suse 10.3 should have started with the "nv" driver which should be changed to the "nvidia" driver after you install the nVidia driver rpm. Suggest you add the nVidia repository to Yast2 and install the latest driver rpm then use the nvidia-settings command to set X11. |
