  1. after update, intel 3945 wireless doesn't work

Suse 10.2 on Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop

    Intel 3945 wireless

    worked fine until this afternoon - I used Yast to update the software;
update included new kernel, now the laptop key combination to turn on
the wireless card doesn't turn it on (still works in Windows XP).

The system detects the card correctly but gives errors.

    Can anyone help with this?

Which 3945 driver does it use.
There are now two, the older ipw3945 and the newer iwlwifi driver. If you
use the old firmware with the newer driver, I do not think it works.

After update cannot turn on the wireless card. The card used to work
just perfectly and on boot was enabled. After update will not be
enabled. IBM Thinkpad X60 - Mandriva

This is a pretty useless post. You run a different operating system to the
OP, and you do not way which (Mandrive 7.1? 2008? what update or what?)
    Try running
    lsmod|grep ipw
and see if the module is installed.
    Try
    modprobe ipw3945
    and do
    dmesg|tail
immediately and see if there are error messages.

Didn't know about the iwlwifi driver. Found no evidence of it on my
system while I was trying to debug the problem. Reverted to the 10.2
that came on the DVD fron Novell and now wireless works again.

In light of your post, googled for iwlwifi, so far, found only that it is
developmental. Will stick with ipw3845 for now.

On Line Update shouldn't break things that work...

    Thanks.

It happens. But when it does there should be an announcement.
