  1. Urgent help with grub needed please!

    Hello,

    Ive installed openSUSE with success in my desktop and am unable to
    boot it through the hard disk, only with the install CD selecting Boot
    from the hard disk. How to solve this please? System data are below:

    sgmtech:~ # fdisk /dev/hda

    The number of cylinders for this disk is set to 19457.
    There is nothing wrong with that, but this is larger than 1024,
    and could in certain setups cause problems with:
    1) software that runs at boot time (e.g., old versions of LILO)
    2) booting and partitioning software from other OSs
    (e.g., DOS FDISK, OS/2 FDISK)

    Command (m for help): p

    Disk /dev/hda: 160.0 GB, 160041885696 bytes
    255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 19457 cylinders
    Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

    Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System

    The number of cylinders for this disk is set to 9733.

    What is missing is file /boot/grub/device.map ?
    You can try to see if this helps:

    I had a very similar problem and did this;

    Open Yast and select -> System -> Bootloader.

    Make sure the bootloader is being written to the correct locaton.

    Press Finish.

    Do this twice.

    This fixed the problem for me.

    cheers
