Tape Drive Self-Identification and the Solaris OS

Tape drive self-identification is a new, standards-based mechanism
that can automate tape drive configuration in the Solaris OS. Larry
Liu and Grant Zhang provide a how-to guide to the process that shows
how the Solaris SCSI tape driver can be made to dynamically retrieve
the information required to configure the tape drive. The authors
specify the SCSI command interface between the tape drive and the
st(7D) driver as part of their article.
