SYSTEM NEWS FOR SUN USERS
Vol 117 Issue 3 2007-11-19 Article 18957 from section "OpenSolaris"

To Aid File Sharing With Microsoft Windows

Sun has donated server software source code that implements the
Common Internet File System (CIFS) protocol, also known as Server
Message Block (SMB), to facilitate Microsoft Windows
interoperability. CIFS is the standard for Windows file sharing
services. Two OpenSolaris projects have been launched to promote
file-sharing between Windows and OpenSolaris, and improve the
usefulness of OpenSolaris in data environments that serve NFS and
CIFS clients.
