Thread: SS20 (sol 9) vs cd burner

  1. SS20 (sol 9) vs cd burner

I am having a bit of a problem with a cd burner in my
SS20(solaris 9) box. I connected it to the machine and booted it.
    probe-scsi seems to see it:

    ok probe-scsi
    Target 2
    Unit 0 Removable WORM JVC XR-W2001 2.14AA
    !MP 000AA 2.14

    Target 3
    Unit 0 Disk SEAGATE ST39173WC 6244LM202786
    Copyright (c) 1998 Seagate

    Target 6
Unit 0 Removable Read Only device TOSHIBA
    XM-4101TASUNSLCD342412/08/94

    ok

So, I boot it using boot -r, so it *hopefully* will add the device.
However, when I try to use something like scsiiinfo (which I downloaded
the binary since I was in a hurry), it does not see it:

    root@kushana-5>scsiinfo
scsiinfo: WARNING: compiled for SunOS 5.8; this is SunOS 5.9. Results
    may be incorrect.
    esp0: sd3,0 tgt 3 lun 0:

    esp0: sd6,0 tgt 6 lun 0:
    Synchronous(4.445MB/sec) Clean CanReconnect
    root@kushana-6>jobs

All it sees its the CDROM and the HD, not the burner (ID 2). cdrecord,
the reason I am doing all this (i.e. I want to burn a knoppix.iso so I
can play with it in a PC) is even less helpful:

    root@kushana-3>cdrecord -scanbus
    Cdrecord 2.00.3 (sparc-sun-solaris2.9) Copyright (C) 1995-2002 Jorg
    Schilling
    Warning: Using USCSI interface.
    Using libscg version 'schily-0.7'

    What am I doing wrong?

Possibly overcomplicating things? What's wrong with cdrw? Try "cdrw -l"
and see if it sees the drive, then check the manpage...
