European Parliament Rejects Software Patent Directive

The movement for free and open source software (FOSS) received a
supportive vote this past week as the European Parliament rejected
the Computer-Implemented Inventions directive, which would have
permitted the patenting of software. Sun and Red Hat joined efforts
with the Foundation for a Free Information Infrastructure (FFII) to
voice the industry's interests for FOSS.
