Features and Tools Included in the Enterprise-class Desktop Solution
Sun is releasing the Sun Java[TM] Desktop System, Release 2, the
enterprise-class desktop solution that is designed to be
affordable, comprehensive and secure. The solution includes a
client desktop, including an office productivity suite, email,
calendar, browser, instant messaging tools and more. It also
includes developer and system management tools for remote
administration in a single package.
The desktop features available in the solution include:
- A GNOME Desktop Environment
- StarOffice[TM] Productivity Suite
- Mozilla[TM] Web Browser
- Evolution Mail Directory and Calendar Clients
- Instant Messaging support for multiple services: Support for
AIM, ICQ, Yahoo IM, IRC and Jabber IM networks via the Open
Source GAIM client
- Linux operating system: Based on SuSE SLED
- Sun Java[TM] System Update Services: Provides automatic
software updates and patching
- Globalization, internationalization and localization support:
Includes extensive language support
Developer tools available in the solution include:
- Java[TM] 2 Platform, Standard Edition (J2SE[TM] platform)
v1.4.2_04, including the Java SDK
- Sun Java[TM] Studio Standard 5 update 1 Technology Preview
- NetBeans[TM] IDE Version 3.6
