Vol 71 Issue 2 2004-01-12 Article 11776 from section "Java Technology"

Project is the Culmination of a Five-year Effort

Texas Instruments (TI) and the INRIA (Institut National de Recherche en
Informatique et Automatique) are collaborating to open a Java[TM]
technology competence center in Rennes, France. This project is an
extension of TI's effort to expand the availability of wireless
multimedia applications on IT OMAP processors and wireless
communications chipsets.

The pair have spent five years working together on a research program
that was focused on developing technology that optimizes the performance
of Java technology applications when running on cell phones and other
portable and converged multimedia electronics. The new center will act
as a key interface for IT's customers and partners in the Java
technology application area.
