Learn What's New and Improved

Download the Java[TM] 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE[TM]) version
1.4 Software Development Kit (SDK) to get complete implementation and
the latest specification developments. The J2EE 1.4 SDK includes the
J2EE 1.4 application server, the Java[TM] 2 Platform, Standard Edition
(J2SE[TM]) as its foundation and various tools to help developers
prototype J2EE applications.

With features like Java[TM] API for XML-based RPC (JAX-RPC) 1.1, the
J2EE 1.4 SDK provides interoperability with Web Services based on the
WSDL and SOAP protocols, as well as the J2EE specification (Java[TM]
Specification Request 921) defining deployment requirements for Web
Services while utilizing the JAX-RPC programming model. Support is
provided for the WS-I Basic Profile 1.0, making the J2EE 1.4 platform
independent and supportive of Web Services while offering platform Web
Services interoperability.

In addition, the J2EE Management 1.0 API is included as the information
model for the standard Management EJB[TM] (MEJB). The platform also
introduces the J2EE Deployment 1.1 API providing a standard API for
deployment of J2EE applications. Security enhancements have been
implemented with the introduction of the Java[TM] Authorization Contract
for Containers (JavaACC), which standardizes how authentication
mechanisms are integrated into J2EE containers.

Development of Web front ends is easier with the J2EE platform with
enhancements to Java[TM] Servlet and JavaServer[TM] Pages (JSP[TM])
technologies.
