StarSuite[TM] 6.0 software will be included with Acer's next generation
of high-performance Centrino-powered Notebooks as part of a special new
offer. Customers who buy a new Acer notebook from an authorized reseller
at one of Hong Kong's major computer malls will receive a copy of the
StarSuite[TM] 6.0 software offering free of charge. A single-user
desktop license of the software usually retails for HK$680, and the
offer will remain in effect until stocks of the software are gone.
"With StarSuite 6.0, Acer notebook customers now have access to a
full-featured office productivity suite incorporating word processing,
spreadsheet, presentation, drawing, Web-publishing, charting,
formula-editing and database applications right out of the box," said
Danny Tam, the general manager of Sun Microsystems Hong Kong.
The StarSuite 6.0 software solution is designed to offer businesses,
educational institutions, government departments and individual
consumers an affordable alternative to expensive proprietary office
suites that impose restrictive licensing policies. This software is
known as StarOffice[TM] 6.0 outside of Asia and includes various
language support, including English, simple Chinese and traditional
Chinese. These features allow businesses to benefit from the ability to
better communicate with partners or customers in the Greater China
