  1. 3511 bad performnace with raid5 and oracle

    Hi

    I am trying to setup a fast solution with 3511 with 4 sata 400GB disks and
    oracle 10, but I am getting poor performance.
    I was trying a bonnie on internal disks and "external das 3511 disks". This
    was the result.

    BONNIE on STOREDGE R5 external

    File './Bonnie.26437', size: 2097152000
    Writing with putc()...done
    Rewriting...done
    Writing intelligently...done
    Reading with getc()...done
    Reading intelligently...done
    Seeker 1...Seeker 2...Seeker 3...start 'em...done...done...done...
    -------Sequential Output-------- ---Sequential

    -Per Char- --Block--- -Rewrite-- -Per

    15. 1

    BONNIE on DISKS INTERNAL setup with SDS mirror

    File './Bonnie.27148', size: 2097152000
    Writing with putc()...done
    Rewriting...done

    3.8

    SUN told me to setup instead of 1.2 TByte Raid 5 volume with sequential
    access 128k stripe size, 2 x 400 GB random access with Raid 0.
    But they are not shure about the result.

    Anybody can help me ?

    dump the RAID 5. It gives poor write performance. Switch to mirroring
    a stripe set instead (RAID 1+0).
