  1. Does Ultra 5 only work with Sun specific mouse & keyboard ?

    Hi,

I found 2 shops in my city selling Ultra 5 stations at different
    configuration.

Shop 1: 1xCPU (speed forgotten but similar to that of shop 2), 128MB
RAM, CD drive, LAN card available but no HD, keyboard, mouse and
    monitor.

Shop 2: 1xCPU (300MHz), 128MB RAM, CD drive, LAN card, 9.1GB HD, Sun
keyboard & mouse available but no monitor.

The price of Ultra 5 at shop 2 is 125% more than that sold at shop 1. I
would like to ask is there any keyboard & mouse replacement besides
    that of Sun product ?

Also, I have one NEC MultiSync V520 monitor which could support
resolution over 1024x768. Could this monitor replace the Sun monitor ?

    Tks

Yes. Search ebay for type 5 or type 6 keyboards. They should run you
around $6-10 used. The hard drive at shop 2 is simply a tiny IDE that
you would eventually upgrade anyways (Remember: these machines have a
limit on the HD size of around 137 GB). So you can simply stick a IDE
    drive and install the OS.

Yes, it should with no problems.

Also remember that if you are paying anywhere more than $40-50 for a u5,
you are probably paying too much.

PS - U5 ram is expensive and 128 MB is not going to cut it in many cases...

No "LAN Card" is needed! It's built into the mother board. You may, if
you wish, add a LAN card if you need a second LAN port for some reason.

The Sun Keyboard and Mouse are unique to Sun! They sold for about $25
US on e-Bay the last time I looked. Any IDE disk drive from 9GB to
127GB can be used. A 9.1GB drive is not worth much these days, drives
that small have not been made for several years!

    That monitor should work well.
