  1. Additional hard disk issues on Asus A8N Sli premium motherboard forvista upgrade

have an unbranded PC desktop that is 3 years old and has windows XP
    Pro SP2 installed on a SATA-150 200Gb Maxtor 7200rpm drive. I have
been attempting to upgrade it to Windows vista ultimate but installing
over the top keeps failing at the end when disk.sys is loaded and
there is insufficient space left to do a clean installation. I was
looking to buy the SAMSUNG 500GB 16MB CACHE SPINPOINT (HD501LJ) SATA 2
HDD and install that on the motherboard as well and leave the XP disk
as-is allowing me to install Vista on the new disk on the hope that
this is more successful (the disk is cheap relative to my time and
also the cost of a new PC). Does anyone see any issues that I might
run into from a hardware/compatibility point of view? I have an award
bios pnp 5.1.39 (should the pnp option be turned on in the bios for
vista?). The two drives will be running different SATA versions. Also,
in terms of the vista upgrade has anyone with the disk.sys problem
before been any more successful on a clean install Vs an upgrade?

    thanks
