Default Q.) How to properly secure CIFS NAS drive

I have a WD-NetCenter NAS and want to secure it on my home based LAN.
It has a very limited web interface to set all or nothing security
parameters, but we have multiple household members needing varyiable
levels of access. Is is possible natively to secure the CIFS file
system at a more granular level, or is there a third party utility
that will do this? I want to be able to give myself full control while
my cildren I dont want deleting my 10 years of digital images, etc.
