  1. No of Volumes

Is there any limit to number of volumes that can be created in WSS?

  2. Re: No of Volumes

As with all tech answers - it depends...

If you are assigning drive letters (and some apps will require them for
compatibility - e.g. Clustering) then you are limited to 24
(26-floppy-cd/dvd). Otherwise, you can have 128 basic (MBR or GPT) volumes.
If you use dynamic disks you can have 1000 volumes per disk group.

One bit of caution - each volume must be mounted during the boot process.
So boot times will increase linearly with the volume count. This is a few
seconds for the <100 volume range, but when you get into the very large
volume counts of dynamic disks you can push the boot time increases into the
minutes. This also applies to cluster fail-over times.
