  1. how can I install an NIC driver on Nexenta? (DEG-530T / SK-9821 / skge)

    I have Nexenta 2.0 (http://www.nexenta.org/os) and the NIC "DEG-530T / SK-9821".
For these NIC I use the driver "skgesol_x86v8.19.1.3.tar.Z", under Solaris 10U6 and OpenSolaris 2009.06
I have to install it these way:
    ----------------------------------------------------------
    uncompress skgesol_x86v8.19.1.3.tar.Z
    tar xf skgesol_x86v8.19.1.3.tar
    pkgadd -d . SKGEsol
    update_drv -a -i "pci1186,xxxx" skge
    ----------------------------------------------------------
and it works fine (under Solaris and OpenSolaris).

But under Nexenta it gives "pkg-get"-errors back...
mmmmh "pkg-get" is not a part of (Open)Solaris... sooo
(Open)Solaris-"pkg-get" is not the same in Nexenta!

But how do I install a Solaris-NIC driver under Nexenta????

  2. Question Re: how can I install an NIC driver on Nexenta? (DEG-530T / SK-9821 / skge)

    Nobody knows how???
    Maybe not possible???

...then is Nexenta not for me... :-(

    thank you

I'm not a Linux hacker, but from what I have read it seems that Nexenta is based on Ubuntu 8.04 LTS with some kind of ZFS and other packages added.

Maybe you should install a driver made for Ubuntu and not for Open Solaris?

No, Ubuntu runs on Linux kernel and Nexenta runs on OpenSolaris kernel.
But Ubuntu and Nexenta use the same userland....
In Linux kernel is the driver already present...

    Now I use NetBSD 5.0.1,
because in FreeBSD 7.x and 8.x sucks the IDE, SATA and USB drivers.
NetBSD hath a very proper code.
