Thread: persistent updatemanager hang problems

  1. persistent updatemanager hang problems

    uname -a
    SunOS xxx 5.10 Generic_125101-10 i86pc i386 i86pc

A couple of weeks ago, updatemanager started hanging while applying patches.
The patches are properly downloaded into /var/sadm/spool, but when smpatch
    is run, nothing happens.

    $ ptree 16063
    15753 /usr/bin/sh /usr/bin/updatemanager
    15759 /usr/bin/java -client -jar /usr/lib/patch/swupdate.jar
    15768 sh -c /usr/lib/patch/csm
    15769 /usr/lib/patch/csm
    16063 smpatch update -i 119549-09 -i 124629-03 -i 120200-09 -i 125794-02 -i 119253-20
    16068 /sbin/sh /usr/sbin/pprosvc -i -p 120987-12,119060-25,119253-20,125794-02,120200
    16077 /usr/bin/java -Djava.library.path=/usr/lib/cc-ccr/lib com.sun.patchpro.cli.Patc
    16169 /usr/bin/java -Djava.library.path=/usr/lib/cc-ccr/lib com.sun.patchpro.cli.Patc
    16072 smpatch update -i 119549-09 -i 124629-03 -i 120200-09 -i 125794-02 -i 119253-20

When I truss the smpatch processes, both are waiting on reads of FIFO
    devices.

If I kill updatemanager and children, I can apply the patches out of
/var/sadm/spool by hand without any difficulty. I've googled a few similar
problems, but nothing I've yet read fixes the problem.

Does anybody else seen the problem/have a fix?

    Thanks,

Can't help you with your actual problem (I don't use SUC , but I
recommend posting the question to Sun's SUC forum at:

    http://forum.java.sun.com/forum.jspa?forumID=871

The Sun engineer(s) behind SUC hang out and answer questions there.
