Thread: Basic SNMP Question

  1. Basic SNMP Question

I installed an eval copy of SNMPc and loaded up the MIB for
BackupExec. It sends the trap to the manager fine, but the message
received is in the following format:

    enterprises.1302.3.2.4.3.0.3 [1] enterprises.1302.3.3.5 (Octet
String): Backup Exec: Robotic Library Device Requires Attention [2]
    enterprises.1302.3.3.1 (Octet String): PJSCFS [3]
    enterprises.1302.3.3.3 (Octet String): Eject Drive 0032 [4]
enterprises.1302.3.3.6 (Octet String): Please remove the media from
the drive. [5] snmpTrapEnterprise.0 (Object ID):
    enterprises.1302.3.2.4.3

Is this correct. Although I understand what it's saying I thought it
be in a more readable format. Am I missing a step in this process. Any
    assistance is greatly appreciated.

What's unreadable about it? The string "Please remove the media from
    the drive" seems crystal clear.

I suspect the part you're talking about is the enterpriss.1302.3.. etc.
part. In this case you probably haven't loaded the MIB module that
defines (ie., assigns a name to) enterprises.1302. Enterprise number
1302 is VERITAS Software Corp. according to the IANA enterprise registry.
You should be able to obtain the appropriate MIB from them or possibly
    www.mibcentral.com if available.

This is exactly what I was referring too. I guess I have to do more
reading about SNMP. Thanks for your help.
