    Hi... Windows explorer seems to read all contents of every file in a
    directory when you enter a directory to display thumbnails of the files
    in that directory... This causes too much network chatter...

    Can this be disabled on the file server end? If so, how?

    Probably via policy settings (poledit) to modify the clients behavior.
    Since the server cannot guess why a client opens a file, he cannot deny
    it for good.
