Thread: BackupExec and Samba shares?

  1. BackupExec and Samba shares?

    I am trying to create a Backup-To-Disk device with BackupExec 9/Windows 2000
onto a Solaris 8 Samba 2.2.8a share. It just pauses for a couple minutes
and then gives me an "access denied" error. Well i have full write
privileges. I can create and write files to this same folder manually, but
cannot create this backup-to-disk device with BackupExec.

    Anyone have any clue? TIA

Here is the error from the samba log. BackupExec is trying to create this
    Folder.cfg file....it tries......but it gets denied

Is BackupExec running as a scheduled task under a different account (ie:
    Backup Operators) ?

  4. Re: BackupExec and Samba shares?

No, this is the error i am getting when I try to create a new backup-to-disk
device on a Solaris 8 Samba server.
Its just very very odd. I am thinking its a Samba Specific thing.

I didnt go with Samba 3+ whatever because they didnt have any Solaris 8
Packages. (Yes i am lazy) I want a nice package incase i need to remove the
    thing from my system.

I was thinking that if it was running as a scheduled task it may be running
under a different account that didn't have access to the folder you were
    backing up to.

The error NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED and the line in the logs:

    unix_mode(BACKUPS/Folder.cfg) returning 0664

would suggest that all have read/write access except others which only have
read permissions. The account would have to be other to cause the error.
