Thread: Samba 3 binaries nearly 1GB

  1. Samba 3 binaries nearly 1GB

    Hi All,

Just built samba 3 on SPARC Ultra running Solaris 8 (32 bit kernel) and the
binaries are huge. e.g. smbd = 85MB. It all works OK, but surely this
    can't
    be right.

Compiler used was GCC 3.3.2, built for this architecture on the same
    machine.

My best guess is that samba has been compiled using static modules, so does
anyone have a clue as to what the parameters should be to the
    --with-shared-modules parametr for configure?

    Any other suggestions?

    John

Ignore me. Obviously just had a 'senior moment'. The default build must
    include
debug info. Strip reduced the binaries to a much more respectable size.
