Thread: protocol negotiation failed ?

  1. protocol negotiation failed ?

    Hi all,

    I'm running samba 3.0.0 on a Solaris 9 box (including libiconv 1.9.1).
    Compilation, installation all went smoothly. Configuration is as:

    [global]
    hosts allow = 192.168.1. 127.

    [tmp]
    comment = Temporary file space
    path = /tmp
    read only = no
    public = yes

    just to get a good start ;-)

    Anyway, testparm returns OK, but the command:

    smbclient //myhost/tmp

    simply returns:

    protocol negotiation failed

    and the log.smbd file get appended with:

    [2003/10/06 16:27:21, 0] ../tdb/tdbutil.c724)
    tdb(/prog/tools/SunOS5.9/private/secrets.tdb): tdb_reopen: failed to
    obtain active lock
    [2003/10/06 16:27:21, 0] ../smbd/server.c410)
    tdb_reopen_all failed.

    ... and all is quite ...trying to connect from a Win2k box results in
    approximately the same ...

    How to proceed ? All guidings appreciated :-)

    Thanks in advance !

    Hi and thanks for the reply,

    My samba installation resided on an NFS mounted disc, hence the locking
    failures. When installed on a local disc, all systems go !
