Thread: 12.1 NFS share

  1. 12.1 NFS share

Both client and server are 12.1

    Server:

    /etc/exports:

    /home/jason 192.168.1.21(rw,sync,no_root_squash)

    root@geddy:/etc/rc.d# exportfs -a
    exportfs: /etc/exports [2]: Neither 'subtree_check' or
    'no_subtree_check' specified for export "192.168.1.21:/home/jason".
    Assuming default behaviour ('no_subtree_check').
NOTE: this default has changed since nfs-utils version 1.0.x

    Client:

    Sun Sep 21 ~ $cat /etc/fstab | grep jason
    websterscafe.com:/home/jason /home/jason/server nfs
    rsize=8192,wsize=8192,timeo=14,intr,rw 0 0

    Error:

    Sun Sep 21 ~ $sudo mount server
mount.nfs: mount to NFS server 'rpcbind' failed: RPC Error: Program not
    registered
    mount.nfs: internal error

I'm going to keep banging my head against it this afternoon. If anyone
here sees an obvious error in my work could you please point and laugh
at it so I can see it and fix it?

    On client,
    chmod +x /etc/rc.d/rc.rpc
    /etc/rc.d/rc.rpc start

Nope, no dice. rpc services were set to start on boot. I restarted them
    and still no-go.

    On server,

/etc/exports should look like this one from a Debian server:

    /srv *(fsid=0,sync,insecure,no_root_squash,rw,nohide)

    chmod +x /etc/rc.d/rc.nfsd
    /etc/rc.d/rc.nfsd start

The other service to be running is rc.nfsd, got that? (n/nfs-utils, I think)

    Grant.

/etc/rc.d/rc.nfsd wasn't set to +x on the server.

    DOH!

Thanks D. Uhring for pointing me towards permissions in /etc/rc.d.

Thanks Grant, yeah that was it. I seem to remember enabling it during
installation, proving that my memory is fading with age.
