Your source code patch failed because the "audit" project appears to samba
versions 2.0.5 and 2.0.7. Slackware 12 (as patched) uses version 3.0.27a.

Perhaps, this project will work better. It states that Samba 3 is
supported: http://sourceforge.net/projects/smbdaudit/
