I810 driver problem!!!!
Hi all,
I have a problem, with a i810 intel driver and 1440x900 resolution, on
a Slackware Linux 12.0 with a 2.2.22 kernel and X0rg7.1. I want to
set
my resolution to 1440x900 on my monitor (Hannstar HSD190MGW1), but the
screen not working good (the screen remain black).
The graphic card is right recognized (from a lspci output), and my
Xorg.log doesn't report any relevant messages or errors, except:
"I810(0): BIOS call 0x5f05 not supported, setting refresh with VBE 3
method."
Any one can help me?
Regards
Loris

I hope that's a typo.

Do you have 915resolution installed? The Intel video BIOS often needs
patching to cope with widescreen modes, and 915resolution allows you to do
this.

This what it supports without patch (both i810 and 1825 use i810
driver, as far as I know) :
http://support.intel.com/support/gra.../cs-009126.htm
http://support.intel.com/support/gra.../CS-009145.htm
1440x900 is not supported without patch.

Typo... ment "both i810 and i815 use i810 driver, as far as I know".

No, you won't see it there. That's why you're using 915resolution.
This is what you see:
root@jowsbox:/home/jow# 915resolution -l
Intel 800/900 Series VBIOS Hack : version 0.5.3
Chipset: 915G
BIOS: TYPE 1
Mode Table Offset: $C0000 + $269
Mode Table Entries: 27
Mode 30 : 640x480, 8 bits/pixel
Mode 32 : 800x600, 8 bits/pixel
Mode 34 : 1024x768, 8 bits/pixel
Mode 38 : 1680x1050, 8 bits/pixel
Mode 3a : 1600x1200, 8 bits/pixel
Mode 3c : 1920x1440, 8 bits/pixel
Mode 41 : 640x480, 16 bits/pixel
Mode 43 : 800x600, 16 bits/pixel
Mode 45 : 1024x768, 16 bits/pixel
Mode 49 : 1680x1050, 16 bits/pixel
Mode 4b : 1600x1200, 16 bits/pixel
Mode 4d : 1920x1440, 16 bits/pixel
Mode 50 : 640x480, 32 bits/pixel
Mode 52 : 800x600, 32 bits/pixel
Mode 54 : 1024x768, 32 bits/pixel
Mode 58 : 1680x1050, 32 bits/pixel
Mode 5a : 1600x1200, 32 bits/pixel
Mode 5c : 1920x1440, 32 bits/pixel
root@jowsbox:/home/jow#
Pick a resolution off the list that you're not using. Let's say you're
not going to use 1680x1050. You pick the mode and put in the resolution
you want in that mode. so the command would be:
915resolution 38 1440 900
When you run 915resolution -l again you'll see it there.
