    The timing was such that it indeed did look that way (his posting
    frequency in that group had been steadily increasing). I can't claim
    his messages did not factor into the decision to switch the group to
    moderated status, but they were not the only factor.

    Agreed. Those who made the decision to carry on with the change knew
    (or were advised) that this would be true in all cases of elements that
    factored into this decision. They felt it was a decision that was
    necessary at that time, so we went ahead with it.

    There was a lot of pressure from others who did use the newsgroup, and
    the decision was not made lightly or without consultation from differing
    angles. I never liked the decision, but I do feel that my arguments
    against it were heard and given fair consideration.

    We use what works. Our Slackware systems have been running reliably for
