Re: New Onyx4 competition... no luck for Europe - SGI

This is a discussion on Re: New Onyx4 competition... no luck for Europe - SGI ; A `LINUX based Onyx4'??!! Ok, so even the `grand' prize isn't worth having. Why bother having a contest, if NONE of the prizes are worth competing for?...

There is no such thing as a Linux-based Onyx4, period. The Onyx4 uses
MIPS R16K processors and runs IRIX 6.5. It does, however, happen to
use ATI FireGL X1 graphics and the XFree86 X server.

Second prize is a stock ATI FireGL X1 card, which can run on a Linux
or Windows PC. This has the same GPU but is not the same card as what
    Onyx4 uses.

You're thinking of the short-lived SGI Graphic Cluster!
