    Hi everyone,

    I have an Indy running IRIX 6.2.
    Recently I am experiencing a problem that so far I could not resolve.
    When I turn the machine on I see the following error related to kernel
    panic:
    Starting up the system...

    PANIC: KERNEL FAULT
    PC: 0x880d4b14 ep: 0xffffcc18
    EXC code:128, `Software detected SEGV '
    Bad addr: 0x34982000, cause: 0x8008
    sr: 0x2

    I removed all the memories (160 MB), I disconnected the hard disk
    drive (Seagate 1GB), put them back, but no luck at all, I still keep
    getting the
    panic message. Upon searching for information on google, I realized
    that /unix kernel is somewhat corrupted which requires a
    roll-up patch to be installed in order to fix the XFS corruption.
    However, for some weird reason, I cannot get into the miniroot for
    the patch installation. I get the following error:

    Does anyone know how to resolve this ?
    Is it because the disk is full ?
    I have a spare disk externally connected to ID=2.

    My further questions are:
    How to make miniroot work in this situation ?
    What is the problem with miniroot ?
    Is it possible to safely transfer the whole disk from ID=1 (Seagate
    1GB) to
    ID=2 (Seagate 36GB) using sash commands ?
    I have also an exabyte tape unit ID=4. Is it possible to perform a
    system
    backup to tape from the standalone shell ? And then transfer it from
    tape
    to the spare disk ?

    I appreciate any information you can provide on this subject.

    You are sure the external terminator is OK? Otherwise this could be a
    dying hard disk. I do not think it is faulty memory.

    You may try cloning the hard disk. You find the procedure how to do this
    in 'IRIX Admin: disks and file systems'.
