Thread: How do I use this file?

  1. How do I use this file?

I've got this updated for one of my programs. It goes something like
    this:

    #!/sbin/sh
    #
    #blah blah author's credits
    #
    #
    cd /folder/directory/
    patchfile file_to_patch 0x15e9302f 0x25eo392 0x929r928
    patchfile file_to_patch 0x15e9302f 0x25eo392 0x929r928
    patchfile file_to_patch 0x15e9302f 0x25eo392 0x929r928
    patchfile file_to_patch 0x15e9302f 0x25eo392 0x929r928
    #
    #
    #

(Where 'file_to_patch' is an actual filename)
So from what I can see, it's executing a 'patchfile' command on the
file_to_patch file. I assume it's editing some hex values in the
file... When I execute this file from a shell, it just says "command
not found", or something like that... Basically, there's a problem with
this 'patchfile' command, whatever it is...

Is there a special way to execute this patch? It didn't come with
    instructions...

OR... is there a way I can manually edit the hex values of the
file_to_patch myself? If so, how would I do it?

    Thanks.

There is no programm named 'patchfile' on a IRIX installation.

Does this mean your octane boots again?`

Heheh, yes. I was up until about 2am last night using a friend's SCSI
CDROM drive and IRIX CDs. It's all good now

So um... any idea about that file? From what I can see, it just needs
to do some simple HEX edits, but I can't figure out what it's wanting
    to do...

    What do you think?

What files are you trying to patch exactly?

Dunno what you´re about to do - patch some nasty license request?
Anyway, you can do that manually using a little tool called hexcurse.
    Now go googlin´ ;-)
