  1. IRIX 6.5.19 /dev/urandom problems

I don't know why /dev/random and /dev/urandom are not workign with my sendmai.

I compiled sendmail+TLS and I got this error:

    Jan 11 19:43:06 4C:callisto sm-mta[108022]: STARTTLS: Error: no proper
    random file definition /dev/urandom
    Jan 11 19:43:06 6C:callisto sm-mta[108129]: starting daemon (8.12.10):
    SMTP+queueing@00:30:00
    Jan 11 19:43:10 4C:callisto sm-msp-queue[108140]: STARTTLS: Error:
    missing random file definition
    Jan 11 19:43:10 6C:callisto sm-msp-queue[108147]: starting daemon
    (8.12.10): queueing@00:30:00

I am using openssl-0.9.7c compiled by myself with gcc

    anyone has some hints ?

    thanks

    Rick

    Because /dev/random and /dev/urandom don't exist in IRIX 6.5.19.

  3. Re: IRIX 6.5.19 /dev/urandom problems

    there are the device files

    callisto 3# ls -la /dev/random
    crw-r--r-- 1 root sys 39, 0 Jan 11 05:00 /dev/random
    callisto 4# ls -la /dev/urandom
    crw-r--r-- 1 root sys 39, 0 Jan 11 05:00 /dev/urandom

so maybe there is not the kernel counterpart ?
    my system is IRIX 6.5.19m

is there any SGI patch to add random support ?

    thanks

    Rick

Eh? It was introduced in 6.5.19m as far as I can tell, or so say the
release notes. It's working fine on my 6.5.19m machine.

previously John Farnsworth may have written article
    saying:

    Likewise, it's ipv6 I'm having problems with.

I suspect the origional poster may need to check thier openssl
    install, before worrying about sendmail.
