FC9: "prefdm respawning too fast, stopped"

Complete messages:

init: prefdm main process (NNNN) terminated with status1
init: prefdm main process ended, respawning
init: prefdm respawning too fast, stopped

Prevents PC from displaying X and then login screen.

Anyone seen this?
Seems to be an FC9-only phenomenon.

Well, you need to fix prefdm. Find out why it is terminating. Look in the
other logs (log onto one of the console terminals, and set the runlevel in
inittab to 3 ratehr than 5. Then run startx and see what the error messages
are.)
