  1. My downloaded Fedora DVD iso file couldn't boot

I had download Fedora 6 DVD iso file (for i-386) via BT (downloading
    from fedora mirror site http://fedora.redhat.com/Download/mirrors.html
take days to complete). I burnt the the downloaded files to CD (plus
    the SHA1SUM file).

Root level directory content of burnt DVD.

I placed the DVD to my PC DVD drive and powered on it. Boot up from DVD
    didn't succeeded.

I checked from fedora site to see if any step went wrong but the
installation guide I found only described about CD images
    ftp://mirror.linux.duke.edu/pub/fedo...ISOS-en_US.txt.

I didn't has enough CD-RW to make the boot CDs for Fedora (I didn't
want to use 6 CD-R for that purpose either). Could anyone suggest the
correct procedure to make a bootable DVD installation disc for fedora 6
    ? Tks!

  2. Re: My downloaded Fedora DVD iso file couldn't boot

If you download a DVD ISO then you need a DVD to burn it onto...

If you can't afford 6 CD-Rs or a DVD burner then consider ordering a
FREE (as in free beer) CD/DVD from Ubuntu - when you get it, then you
install it and realise you don't really want Fedora

    Possibilities
    a) your system cannot boot from a DVD.
    b) You forgot to tell your system to try to boot from the DVD drive before
    booting from the hard disk.
    c) Something is wrong with the dvd.
d)Something is wrong with how you burned the DVD. Did you burn the iso
directly, or did you unpack the iso and burn all thos files to the DVD. If
the second case then that DVD is not a boot dvd.

    Same thing.

So did you use the dvd iso or did you unpack the 6 CD isos and then burn
    their files to the dvd?

You need to burn it as an ISO, you probably burned it as a data file. Here
is the command to do it

    growisofs -Z /dev/dvdwriter=$1.iso
