Default IP Tracking

Is it possible to track down a specific machine in an internet caffe or
univesity using an IP address? I am basically trying work out which
Internet caffe someone is using to send emails to my account. Using the
WHOis database I am only able to trace that its a hotmail registered IP,
nothing much is available. Is there any other way I can pin it down to a
machine?

Thanks in advance

Then you're looking at the IP of a hotmail server, not the IP the user
used a browser from to send the mail to hotmail. Take a better look at
the full headers of that message, perhaps? You'll need to look further
than the first Received: header, since the IP you're looking for won't
show up in one.

If it is not in the header files of the message, then no (Look at the
Received: lines. The last is the first machine.

Hotmail? Then you are using an email? The headers will show the trail it
used to get to you.

Try doing a traceroute. That can be helpful if the point on the route just
BEFORE the users machine is named in some clear manner. Often there is a
abbreviated name of a city in there.
