Thread: runaway bootpd ?

  1. runaway bootpd ?

    SCO 5.0.6

    from /usr/adm/syslog:

    Jun 11 15:40:20 aa600 inetd[314]: /etc/bootpd: exit 0x1
    Jun 11 15:40:21 aa600 bootpd[28134]: version 2.3.5
    Jun 11 15:40:21 aa600 inetd[314]: /etc/bootpd: exit 0x1
    Jun 11 15:40:22 aa600 bootpd[28135]: version 2.3.5
    Jun 11 15:40:22 aa600 inetd[314]: /etc/bootpd: exit 0x1
    Jun 11 15:40:23 aa600 bootpd[28136]: version 2.3.5
    Jun 11 15:40:23 aa600 inetd[314]: /etc/bootpd: exit 0x1
    Jun 11 15:40:24 aa600 bootpd[28137]: version 2.3.5
    Jun 11 15:40:24 aa600 inetd[314]: /etc/bootpd: exit 0x1

This keeps running. syslog file is growing.

Any ideas what causes this? Can (should) I stop bootpd ?

    TIA

    Update:

I commented out bootps in the inetd.conf file and that stopped bootpd
and the messages. I still would like to know what caused the errors.
Nothing on bootptab has changed (it was never used, all commented out).

    TIA.

As I said at http://aplawrence.com/Bofcusm/1014.html I've seen this
happen here and there. I've never put a packet trace on to check, but
I suspect that it's probably DHCP - bootp isn't all that bright.
