Possible hardware/cpu/memory problem. Download memtest86+
from www.memtest.org and let it run for an hour or so to see if
anything turns up.

If the system is that old, the motherboard and components attached
to it may need a good cleaning.

There is an old saying that "Unix is the best memory test you
can get for a PC".

Just because it runs XP doesn't mean it will break with Unix.

Thank you, I've run memtest86+ an I have some errors on a memory bank.
This can explain some errors (in Windows XP) I'd think that the HD was
wrong !
