Thanks for these updates. I agree with your assessment of TomTom City
Maps - the CD is a bargain!
There is at least one other programme that you might have included -
"RealMaps" by Kevin Millican.
This allows user to create maps on Psion from scans of paper maps, or from
any other graphical image of a map. GPS moving map works with this
perfectly, although without (of course) route planning.

Yep, know it well. Great as a home-brew moving map solution, though not
quite what I was focussing on in the article, i.e. full-blown navigation
solutions. Hey, I didn't even mention my (very old) Mapper 8-)

OK. If you were only targeting route planning systems I'll forgive you.
And your modesty on Mapper does you great credit :-)
But for off-road moving map applications, I am not aware of any Psion
options other than RealMaps. Do you know of any others?

TomTom Route Planner and Street Planner?

Thanks. Steve Litchfield's site mentions those, which are excellent. But I
was asking specifically about options for off-road use. I only know of
RealMaps (also excellent) and I was asking if Steve L knew of others. You
might want to go back and read the full thread, then this would make more
sense....

No. 8-) Again though, I was focussing on route-planning, GPS-aware road
navigation systems. I wanted to show people that there's more to this
field than Palm OS and Pocket PC 8-))

I have no idea whether Steve L ever encountered it but there was, for Series
3, also TDCGPS. I exchanged source with the author, Simon Taylor, for a
while. It lacks some of the irritating idiosyncrasies of RealMaps, and keeps
more closely to the standard GUI, but of course has a few peculiarities of
its own. So far as I know it was never ported to Series 5.
