Thread: 3-Lib updates

  1. 3-Lib updates

    Hi all,

Just to let Psion and Symbian owners know that at long last I've been able
to put more time into the 3-Lib web site. New in the last week or so:

    - In Sickness and in Health, a look at prolonging the life of your Psion
    palmtop.
    - A directory of Psion and communicator-friendly web resources
    - Latest 3-Lib Psion library CD update, with the indexes now fully
    searchable online
    - Music on the Sony Ericsson P800 and P900 - how to fit six hours of
CD-quality music on a single Memory Stick Duo
    - An Introduction to GPRS - how it works and more...
    - A big page of Psion tips
    - Added to the PsiFind page of long-forgotten Psion software and added
    extra categories

All this and more at the usual address, http://3lib.ukonline.co.uk/

    Cheers
    Steve Litchfield

That is great to hear. Your site is one of the really handy
resources for Psion users. But ... as far as I can recall, you
no longer have any Psion? Symbian yes, but no Psion (I believe).
So it is even more impressive that you continue to add to your
    site.

Yes and no. I've now got a MC218 (5mx clone). Plus an assortment of
Symbian devices and a couple of Palm OS ones. But no Pocket PC (spit)!

We discussed screen visibility in another thread.
Seems that the 3-series are better than the 5xx and Revo.
How does the MC218 compare to those? Same as 5xx

    TIA

    Yes, identical to 5mx.

These was some suggestion the MC218 screens were those which
had failed Psions quality control but were still functional.
My 218 used to buzz very annoyingly when the back light was
    on.

I never heard that one- how long would it take and how much would it cost to
    sort screens?
fwiw My Psion 5mx buzzed more loudly than my Ericsson when new. The noise
was less after the 3rd repair- I think that was the main board (blamed by
POS on using a non Psion mains adapter which was responsible for damage to
several components on the main board) .

I have a MC218. Never buzzed, nor did other people's 5mx's in my
    vicinity. Anecdotal perhaps?

Nope. My 5mx is buzzing allright ) I noticed that if I press the left
hand side corner down (close to the Ctrl key) it stops buzzing. I assume
that it is a matter of physical resonance within the case.

Not anecdotal, reality. It buzzed when the backlight was on.

My 5mx buzzes slightly when the backlight is on, sometimes.

Partially closing the Psion, then letting it slide fully open again,
often makes it quiet again, even with the backlight still on.

No, I believe it's real. Before my screen replacement, mine used to
whine. Now it really does sound more like a buzz.

Flapping the lid like wings wouldn't make a difference- the buzz was a buzz.
