I just replaced my motherboard due to a warranty case and I am
experiencing strange troubles with the new motherboard:

rc.sysinit cannot be executed. It does find /bin/bash and the file
/etc/rc.sysinit but it cannot parse the file and gives errors like:
"syntax error near unexpected token 'xxxxx'" for *every command*. And
stops with a serie of messages [Id "x" respawning too fast: disabled
for 5
minutes]

Then I rebooted the machine and set "/bin/bash" as init-process
(init=/bin/bash). As expected I was thrown into a shell. But every
command I typed in (e.g. 'pwd') was answerde with "syntax error near
unexpected token 'newline'".

Apparently with certain kernel version bash is unable to parse the
command line.

Has anyone experienced this before?

My system:
RH 8.0 on Dual Xeon 2.8, 4GB RAM, 3Ware 8506-3 RAID Controller
