Plus, it's standardized (like ed). So you'll find it (or a vi clone,
like on Redhat) on anything vaguely Unixoid you'll stumble over.

Learning a handful of ed commands might also be useful. It is often
derided as 60ies technology (which it is) but it can be very useful in
scripts for in-place editing (in contrast to sed, which only operates as
a filter).
