My laptop is being a pain. When I install it with FC6, selecting KDE
rather than Gnome, all goes well. It reboots fine after running firstboot
and the gui is fine. I can use it no problems, that is everything works.
After using it, I then shut it down. Next day, I'll boot it up and the
screen is black, the keyboard locked out and it's big red switch time.

After each fresh install, xorg.conf shows we are running i810 driver.
Everything would be OK, provided I left the laptop powered on forever,
but that isn't what a laptop is for.

I can ssh in despite the black screen of death, top shows 99% idle (with
top being the top process). Here are some of the things I've checked to
try and troubleshoot the problem.

Checking Xorg.0.log, shows nothing out of the ordinary

Trawling the web, I see the message IO Error in XOpenDisplay has been
encountered by quite a number of people, but mostly in Debian and Ubuntu.
Sadly no one has put up a "Here's how I fixed it" posting (well not that I
can find any where).

Has anybody any advice on how to get it working? I tried a yum update, but
that didn't resolve it. I think it is an X issue rather than a KDE issue.
I know the machine can run KDE fine, as it does so immediately after the
install. I had it running for 7 hours after install and all was well,
until I booted it the next day.

Thanks in anticipation.
