This is a discussion on Can I update from Fedora 3 to 4, post 3 yum updates? - Redhat ; I want to update to Fedora 4, but I've got many yum updates from 3, so I'm concerned that the update will destroy the yum 3 installs....

    I want to update to Fedora 4, but I've got many yum updates from 3, so I'm

    Yes you can update via yum. Those updates will be over written with a FC4
    version. If no version exists for FC4, that package won't install. If there
    are any rpm dependency problems, yum will notify you prior to installing
    anything, and you will need to fix them first.
