why does boot pauses for 24 seconds polling lp0 ?
Anybody know what is happening when the boot-up sequences pauses for about
24 seconds with the message:
lp0: using parport0 (polling).
Is such a pause normal? Everything else during boot-up seems to fly by so
much faster.
"uname -r" gives: 2.4.27-2-386
The parallel port is connected to a perfectly good HP 4l
which prints fine once the (debian 3.1r1) system is up an running.

Have a look at the boot scripts. Are you sure that it is the parallel port
that is pausing, or is it something in the script immediately after?
Try putting some echo statements in to track this.
Locate the line of the script that is causing the delay, then post it on here.

Mark.
