  1. No Sound - Fedora Core - Newbie

    Hi!

    Updated my kernel to 2.6.10-1.8_FC2 using up2date (previous Kernel was
    2.6.9-1.11_FC2) and now have no sound. Got error on logging in saying:

    "Sound server informational message:
    Error while initialising the sound driver
    device /dev/dsp cannot be opened (no such device)
    The sound server will continue, using the null output device"

    This error hasnt come back since after clicking ok but have had no sound
    since.

    I tried booting into previous Kernel - samne thing there now!

    I checked everything was not muted and pushed all the way up in kmix
    ,,,,also played around a bit with alsamixer to check settings pushed up
    and not muted etc

    Ran cat /etc/modprobe.conf and got:

    alias eth0 e100
    alias snd-card-0 snd-intel8x0
    install snd-intel8x0 /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install snd-intel8x0 &&
    /usr/sbin/alsactl restore >/dev/null 2>&1 || :
    remove snd-intel8x0 { /usr/sbin/alsactl store >/dev/null 2>&1 || : ; };
    /sbin/modprobe -r --ignore-remove snd-intel8x0
    alias char-major-81 bttv
    alias usb-controller ehci-hcd
    alias usb-controller1 uhci-hcd

    lspci gives:

    [root@workstation root]# lspci
