    How do it test it regardless of which shell I am in? 8-)

    That will tell you the login shell, but not necessarily what shell you're
    currently in.

    bash-3.00$ echo $SHELL
    /bin/bash
    bash-3.00$ csh
    % echo $SHELL
    /bin/bash
    % exit
    bash-3.00$
